Establishment of the Intellectual Awareness Unit
The Intellectual Awareness Unit was established at Northern Borders University and is directly linked to the University President. This Unit operates as an independent legal entity under the supervision of His Excellency the President and focuses on addressing religious and intellectual matters relevant to both the university and society. Its primary goal is to develop and implement programs that counter extremist ideas and deviant behaviors.
The establishment of the Unit is based on Royal Decree No. (35391) dated 09/01/1435 AH and No. (27526) dated 06/21/1436 AH. This initiative is part of a broader media plan aimed at combating the spread of deviant ideas among Saudi youth, which includes the establishment of "Intellectual Awareness Units" across all universities.
The Unit features an organized administrative and financial structure and includes various specialists in Islamic law, education, psychology, and other related fields. The Unit is chaired and closely monitored by His Excellency the President of the University. It will collaborate with judicial, advocacy, educational, security, and media sectors to strengthen its initiatives. Student committees from all colleges within the university will also contribute to its efforts.

The Unit Supervisor's Statement
As for what follows, one of the essential purposes that all religions share is the preservation of the mind. Islamic law places significant importance on ensuring the safety and protection of the mind from influences that might divert it from the path intended by the law. Among the most dangerous of these influences are extremist and deviant ideas that can lead individuals to perceive their wrongful actions as good. This phenomenon can cause a person to see evil as virtuous and sinful acts as pathways to draw closer to Allah.
In this era of globalization and the widespread use of communication tools, the invasion of minds has become more severe than threats from physical weapons. It is imperative for the people of Islam to protect their children from the dangers of this vast cultural invasion emanating from various backgrounds and sects.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has played a major role in combating destructive ideas, through internal and external platforms and various means. It has achieved great accomplishments in this regard, as witnessed by those near and far, enemies and friends.
Universities have played a major role in raising awareness about the dangers of intellectual deviations. Consequently, His Excellency the Minister of Education issued a directive to establish intellectual awareness units in universities, based on Royal Decree No. (27526) dated 21/6/1436 AH.
In response, the Intellectual Awareness Unit was established at the Northern Border University by decision of His Excellency the University President No. 24/36/1/Q dated 9/21/1436. This unit aims to spread intellectual awareness, combat destructive ideas, and promote moderation and tolerance within and beyond the university community.
To facilitate this, a higher supervisory committee was formed to oversee the work of the Intellectual Awareness Unit at the university, headed by His Excellency the University President. Additionally, an executive committee was established to implement programs and activities that achieve the unit's goals in cooperation with the supporting colleges and deanships.
May Allah's prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and companions.
